“Obviously Ms Parker-Bowles, as she was known when she married Prince Charles in 2005, was a bit of public enemy number one because people were loyal to Princess Diana’s memory,” she said today.

“But I think now, 25 years after her death, the time has probably come.

“As the Queen herself said, she feels that because of Camilla’s unwavering service not only to Prince Charles but to the Queen and the country, she deserves to be known as the next Queen.”

The general consensus is that “a lot of time has passed since Diana was killed in 1997,” the royal commentator said.

“People have been thinking about the wedding and the last wedding,” she said.

“People say if Harry and William accepted Camilla – they were both at the wedding, William was a witness – who is the rest of the country and the world to complain to?

“You know that not only did she make her father a happier man, she arguably made her father a better man.

“You also know that as a monarch he must also know that as a monarch he needs an unwavering support by his side.”
