The 26-year-old was attempting to become the first alpine skier to win three Olympic gold medals for the United States, losing a margin on the fifth goal of the first run of the women’s giant slalom and retiring. This is also the first time she has failed to finish a GS race since January 2018.

A total of nine medal events are scheduled for today, including another debut for mixed events – this time one in ski jumping, where men and women compete together.

Meanwhile, Team Great Britain qualified for the mixed curling doubles semifinals despite losing 6-2 to Norway in the penultimate game of the round robin. In the end, however, it didn’t matter as results elsewhere confirmed Team GB’s place in the last four.

The United States also won their first silver at the 2022 Olympics when Julia Marino placed second in the snowboard slopestyle finals. She was only surpassed by Zoi Sadowski Synnott, who won a historic premiere Winterolympiade gold for New Zealand. Further history was made when Jakara Anthony Australia won his first gold medal in 12 years in the women’s moguls.
