COVID in Jalisco: The number of deaths from the virus grows during the last week

The virus for COVID-19 does not give truce to the people of Jalisco. In the last week, deaths associated with the virus grew more than 70% compared to the previous week.

According to statistics from the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ), while from Sunday, January 23 to Saturday, January 29, 161 deaths by the coronavirus, from January 30 to yesterday, February 5 they added 283, which represents an increase of 76%.

The number of cases accumulated in seven days also increased from one week to another. While from January 23 to 29 they added 29 thousand 127 new infections, in the last week they reported 39 thousand 251 new cases, that is, 35% more cases due to the contagiousness of the new Omicron strain.

The foregoing, despite the fact that the last two days the infections were reported down, after Thursday the day with the most confirmed cases in a single day was reported: five thousand 908 infections in 24 hours, the highest figure so far in the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, according to SSJ statistics.

Another indicator that showed an increase, although to a lesser extent, was that of hospitalizations because of the virus: while on Saturday, January 29, they reported 929 hospitalized patients by COVID-19, yesterday there were a thousand and six.

According to estimates projected by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, the most recent spike in infections is expected to flatten out by the first week of next April.
