Red River Valley is slowly improving from recent snowstorm

ONE Blizzard Warning for Grand Forks has been replaced with a winter weather advisory until 8:00 p.m. A blizzard warning continues for portions of West Polk…Kittson…Roseau…West Marshall…Pembina and Walsh counties.

Northwest winds have severely reduced visibility to 1/4 mile or less this morning. That was enough to cancel classes at most of the area’s schools, including Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. ONE No travel advice has been replaced with a travel alert for the immediate area around Grand Forks. ONE No travel advice is still posted for counties near the Canadian border.

The National Weather Service reported 1.9 inches of snow (7 a.m.). A wind gust of 51 mph was measured at Grand Forks Airport (GFK). A top speed of 70 was recorded near Devils Lake.

The strongest weather effects will occur around midday before tapering off this afternoon.
