The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Monday that its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi terrorist group against the United Arab Emirates.

The ministry confirmed in a statement that “there were no casualties in the attack and the ballistic missile fragments fell outside of populated areas,” according to the state news agency SHE.

The General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates (GCAA) said shortly afterwards that “air traffic is normal and all flights are operating as usual”.

In a statement released after the foiled attack, the GCAA said, “There are no impacts on flights and airports resulting from the interception of the ballistic missile fired at the country by the Houthi terrorist militia.”

The GCAA and Department of Defense both urged the public to refer to official sources for all information and updates.

The missile was intercepted at 12:50 a.m. Monday morning. Within minutes of the incident, the UAE MOD Joint Operations Command said that by 12:50 a.m. it had destroyed the platform from which the ballistic missile was launched in Al-Jawf, Yemen.

It tweeted a video of the launch site’s destruction, adding: “UAE Air Defense Forces and coalition command had managed to destroy the rocket launcher in Yemen after identifying the locations of the sites.”

This is the Houthis’ third attack on the UAE in recent weeks.

On January 17, the Houthis attacked Abu Dhabi International Airport and the three oil tankers in ICAD 3, Mussafah near ADNOC’s storage tanks. The incident at the oil tanks resulted in the deaths of a Pakistani man and two Indians, while another six people were injured.
