‘He literally drove through’: British teenager crashes into McDonald’s | Crime – After World

A drunk driver has been banned from the road after driving into a McDonald’s restaurant in West Sussex, causing extensive damage.

Taylor Steel has been banned from driving for two years following the accident at Buck Barn Services on the A24 near Horsham on November 24.

Steel, 19, from Ashington, failed a breath test that showed he had 101 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath – nearly triple the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the teenager took the term drive-thru restaurant “a little too literally”.

They said: “In a police interview, Steel admitted he had been drinking beer in a pub before the incident happened, adding he didn’t know why he was driving the car or where he was going.”

In addition to the driving ban, Steel was sentenced to a 12-month community order in Crawley Magistrates Court, ordering him to do 80 hours of unpaid work and paying £85 in costs and a £95 victim’s surcharge.
