Jan. 29 (UPI) – Pop music icon – and Oscar winner – Cher has taken to social media to tease her new cover of the golden girls Theme song “Thank you for being a friend”.
“Every friend is gold. Tune in @nbc Mon 1/31 10pm ET 9pm CT #CelebratingBettyWhite,” the singer sent Friday, along with a clip of her performing the well-known song.
NBC plans to air a TV special Monday to celebrate the life of The golden girls and Die Mary-Tyler-Moore-Show Comedian Betty White, who died on December 31 at the age of 99.
Guests on the program include US President Joe Biden, Drew Barrymore, Valerie Bertinelli, Cher, Bryan Cranston, Ted Danson, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer, Goldie Hawn, Vicki Lawrence, Jane Leeves, and Jay Leno Anthony Mackie, Wendie Malick, Joel McHale, Tracy Morgan, Jean Smart, and Mary Steenburgen.
“Co-stars, friends, admirers and those who shared special moments with White share their fondest memories and unveil untold stories to commemorate the life and legacy of the seminal television star,” the network said in a release.
“The show will feature clips and never-before-seen footage that best captures White’s irreverent tone, spirit and impeccable comedic timing that have been a hallmark of her decades-long career.”
The Golden Girls originally aired from 1985 to 1992. The sitcom continues to be popular with reruns.
