The Dangers of Carbon Monoxide to Health All – Archyworldys

KOMPAS.comcarbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic and noxious gas.

Carbon monoxide is colorless, tasteless, non-irritating and odorless.

This gas is produced by burning gas, oil, gasoline and solid fuels or wood.

Reported by United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA US), incomplete oxidation during combustion in gas ranges and unvented gas or kerosene heaters can cause high levels of CO in the room.

Worn or poorly controlled and maintained combustion equipment (such as boilers or stoves) can be a source carbon monoxide significant.

In addition, an improperly sized, clogged, unplugged, or leaking chimney can also be a source of carbon monoxide.

The health hazards of carbon monoxide

Reported by National Agency for Drugs and Food Control (BPOM), the main health hazard of carbon monoxide is that it causes blood disorders.

The OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) approved limit for carbon monoxide exposure is 35 ppm for 8 hours/day.

The carbon monoxide content, which is directly harmful to health, is 1500 ppm (0.15 percent).

Exposure to 1000 ppm (0.1 percent) for a few minutes can result in 50 percent saturation of carboxyhemoglobin, which can be fatal.

Carbon monoxide is not an irritant, but it can be very harmful.

Cigarette smoke also contains carbon monoxide gas. In adults who do not smoke, less than 1 percent carboxyhemoglobin is usually formed, in heavy smokers it is usually higher at 5 to 10 percent.

Carbon monoxide hazards can also exist in a closed garage for about 10 minutes.

To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, all garage doors and windows must be open when the engine is running.
