In order to avoid crowds in the clinics and family units of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Jalisco, the institution asked employers not to request negative COVID-19 tests to allow them to return to their jobs.
This was indicated by the coordinator of Family Medicine of the IMSS Jalisco, Marduk Puga Nathal, who reported that given the conditions of the new omicron variant, As of the seventh day after symptoms began, the patient no longer represents a risk of contagion, according to the latest determinations of the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The recommended days of isolation have already decreased to seven days from the onset of symptoms. After this time, the period of contagion has passed and there is no need to perform a new test to see if he still has the disease, he can now allow his worker to return, ”explained the doctor. The foregoing, he added, also favors the tests aimed at clinics and family units being applied to those people and vulnerable groups that need it.
For this reason, the doctor pointed out that in the UMF and IMSS clinics COVID-19 tests are not applied to those people who are so required by their employers after finishing their isolation due to contagion. Nor do they apply to people who require the test to travel, to attend a concert or social event, or to asymptomatic people.
The tests only apply to people with symptoms who go to medical units and their Social Security Respiratory Care Modules (MARSS), implemented especially to care for beneficiaries who have respiratory problems that could be related to Sars-Cov- 2., privileging vulnerable groups such as older adults, pregnant women, those with kidney disease, heart disease or liver disease.
“We have been insisting to the business sector that they not request them when they have just finished a disability because later the workers are referred to the clinics to have them done, they are not in the inclusion group for the sample collection and that can cause some nonconformity”, said the coordinating doctor.
On the other hand, according to the infectologist, National Health Award 2020, Francisco Moreno, the isolation of a patient with COVID-19 should be based on the days since his first symptom or the day of the positive test, for which it is not It is necessary to request new tests “since they may be positive for the virus due to the presence of viral fragments” despite the fact that the patient is no longer contagious.
