COVID: Pandemic growth speed has begun to slow down, says López-Gatell

The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo Lopez-Gatell reported that the growth rate of the COVID-19 pandemic, although he considered this to be preliminary information.

During the press conference “morning” of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), López-Gatell noted:

“The national epidemic curve gives us data that is still preliminary, but it is encouraging if it continues as a trend. In the first weeks of 2022 we had very rapid changes in the increase in cases, due to the omicron variant”.

“However, in epidemic week four that opened on Sunday, we see an increase of only 12%, this is a substantial change, and this reduces the number of estimated cases that are active to 5.9%; This should be taken with caution, but if it is maintained, it is the beginning of a change in the growth trend, the speed of growth of the pandemic is reduced”.

Hugo López-Gatell said that is also reflected in hospitalizations.

released a graph where hospital occupancy is 43% for general beds and 25% for ventilated beds.

“This is 70% less than what we had in the second epidemic curve and we have maintained the hospital reconversion capacity that is above demand to have available spaces.”
