PlayStation’s Dad Calls Metaverse Useless, Here’s Why

JAKARTA – Ken Kutaragi, known as the father of PlayStation, joked Metaverse so-called useless technology. Because to be a real human you have to be part of the real world, not the virtual world.

Start from Gizmodo, (Monday (01/24/2022), in conversation with Bloomberg, Kutaragi said that the Metaverse concept currently only creates a virtual world that is almost real. In his opinion, the most important thing is to be part of the real world.

“You would rather be the perfect avatar than yourself? It’s basically no different than anonymous messageboard sites,” Kutaragi said.

Not only that meteverse Kutaragi isn’t happy with Virtual Reality (VR) headset technology either. Even if his former company Soni Entertainment is developing a new generation of VR headsets for the PlayStation 5.

“Headsets will isolate you from the real world and I disagree with that. Headsets are just annoying,” he continued.

Kutaragi isn’t the only big player in the tech industry questioning the utopian allure of the metaverse.

Over the past year, however, Niantic CEO John Hanke has also created some of the most interesting modern augmented reality-based early metaverses with his company.
