The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the best Test cricketer of 2021. England captain Joe Root, New Zealand’s Kyle Jameson, Sri Lankan Dimuth Karunaratne and India’s Ravichandran Ashwin were in contention for the award. From these players, the ICC selected Joe Root for the Best Test Cricket Player of the Year 2021 award. Root performed beautifully in tests in 2021. In testing last year, Root hit 1,708 runs in 15 games with the racquet, and that spanned six centuries.

Root last year became just the third cricketer in history to score more than 1,700 runs in Tests on a single calendar. Only Mohammad Yusuf and Sir Vivian Richards are ahead of him. The ICC rated his performances in Galle against Sri Lanka and against India in Chennai and Lord’s as the best. Root scored 218 runs in the first game of the four-game Test series against India in Chennai.

2021 has been a great year for Joe Root as a cricketer and batsman, but as captain he has had to face losing in a row. First India defeated England here. After that, the New Zealand team defeated England on their own soil. After that, India defeated England again and when it came to the Ashes series, they didn’t play there either. The England team had to face defeat in four matches of the five-game Ashes series. The only match the team could handle was a tie in the Ashes series.
