Anthony Elanga says it was a dream to hear fans sing his name

Before Marcus Rashford emerged with a late winner, Anthony Elanga started his first ‘proper’ Premier League game for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

He had of course started against Leicester last season but that game was a dead rubber as United’s place in the top four was already sealed. Even his other Old Trafford start against Young Boys in the Champions League came in a match with nothing going for it.

Having started the last two away games, Elanga earned his place in that crucial league game against West Ham and the fans really embraced him.

The fans chanted “Rhythm is a dancer, Anthony Elanga,” and the young Swede heard and appreciated the crowd’s support.

After the 1-0 win on Instagram, Elanga said it was an “amazing feeling” that he dreamed of.

Elanga deserves it

With his short first-team spell so far, Elanga has shown he is ready and able to make a difference by scoring an important opener at Brentford midweek.

While he didn’t score against West Ham, he looked good, winning headers in the final third and having a second-half try that sailed just wide before being picked off.

Elanag didn’t have as much run as they did in midweek when Edinson Cavani returned to the bench and Anthony Martial trained more and also came on as a substitute.

The decisions paid off as Rangnick’s substitutes were combined for United’s winners.

For 61 minutes, Elanga gave it his all before leaving the field, attempting two shots, creating a chance and even leveling.

The 19-year-old has shown he can play a big role by the end of the season and blossomed into a first-team player.

Hopefully he’ll give fans even more reasons to sign his name in the coming weeks, months and years.
