Khazanah to create active value for portfolio companies: report – Archyde

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Khazanah Nasional will more actively create value in its portfolio of listed companies and support venture capital firms struggling overseas, its boss told The Edge Weekly.

Managing Director Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir said in an interview that Khazanah “will be a little more active to create value” and will use its position as a government investment arm to support its portfolio companies with any issues in regulated industries overseas.

Amirul said he would not rule out the possibility of further mergers and acquisitions but did not share details.

He also said the fund can restore assets previously split into strategic and commercial baskets, as all investments, including those of strategic importance, should deliver commercial returns over time.

Amirul told the weekly that the fund’s overall mandate has not changed significantly, although its focus may have differed at different stages of development.

Khazanah had split its portfolio into commercial and strategic holdings in 2019 as part of preparations to reduce stakes in some large companies to improve returns as part of a new strategy.
