Delhi and Mumbai continued to see falls in Covid cases on Friday, recording 10,756 and 5,008 one-day cases respectively. While the positivity rate in the national capital fell to 18.04 percent, daily cases in Mumbai fell for the third straight day.
In terms of the death toll, Delhi recorded 38 deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, while Mumbai recorded 12 deaths. Delhi as of Thursday had reported 12,306 Covid cases and 43 deaths, while Mumbai had reported 5,708 cases and 12 deaths.
Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry said the isolation facility will no longer be mandatory for international travelers arriving from risk countries from January 22. In a statement, the ministry also said they would still have to undergo a seven-day home quarantine. “If they test positive, their samples should be further sent to the INSACOG laboratory network for genomic testing. They will be treated/isolated according to the established standard protocol,” she added.
While Karnataka in southern India decided to lift the curfew over the weekend, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced the state will go into full lockdown on January 23 due to rising Covid-19 cases.
