‘Stolen’ BMW set on fire and shots fired in western Sydney – Archyde

A suspected stolen car was set on fire and shots were fired Sydneys Westen over night.

Police were called to Bennett Road, South Granville, at around 10.30pm last night after reports of gunfire.

When police arrived, there were no gunshot damage or injuries.

Officers were alerted to a car fire on Ostend Street, South Granville shortly after.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire.

The BMW X5 – which police say was stolen from a property in Elanora Heights in June 2021 – was badly damaged by the fire and is under forensic examination.

Three men, aged 20, 23 and 25, were arrested nearby.

All three were taken to Granville Police Station but have since been released pending further investigation.

Detective Superintendent Paul Devaney said police received CCTV footage showing two men running away from the fire in the car.

“Surveillance shows two men running from the vehicle after attempting to set fire to the vehicle,” he said.

He said they can only be described as dressed in dark.

Police received more information about the shooting and visited the intersection of Wells Street and Clyd Street in South Granville.

A Toyota Hilux-Ute ​​was found with bullet damage to the front bulbar and was towed away for forensic examination.

“We have yet to identify the occupant of the Toyota Hilux and the motive for the shooting,” said Detective Superintendent Devaney.

Police are investigating links to organized crime networks, he added.
