Black Caps open 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup against hosts Australia – Archyde

The Black Caps will begin their 2022 men’s T20 World Championship campaign against hosts and defending champions Australia in Sydney Re-run of last year’s final in Dubai.

The draw was announced by the ICC on Friday. New Zealand meet their Trans-Tasmanian rivals at the SCG on Saturday 22 October in the opening match of the tournament’s Super 12 phase.

Australia beat the Kiwis by eight wickets in November to claim their first T20 title. despite Black Caps captain Kane Williamson’s record-breaking batting of 85 in the decision maker.

The Black Caps were drawn into Group 1 of the Super 12 alongside world No. 1 Australia, England, Afghanistan and two yet to be determined qualifiers from the first round of the competition.

Group 2 consists of India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh and two other qualifiers from the first round.

New Zealand meets Afghanistan in their second Super 12 game in Melbourne on Wednesday 26 October before returning to Sydney on Saturday 29 October to take on the Group A winners.

On Tuesday 1st November they travel to Brisbane to take on England at The Gabba in a repeat of their epic semi-final at last year’s event before their Super 12 games against the runners-up on Friday 4th November finish Group B in Adelaide.

The T20 World Cup runs from October 16th to November 13th, with the semi-finals being played on November 9th and 10th at the SCG and the Adelaide Oval.

The final will be played under lights at the MCG on Sunday November 13th.

The tournament begins with a duel between the 2014 champions, Sri Lanka and Namibia, on Sunday 16 October in Geelong.
