On the January 19 episode of AEW Dynamite, Rhodes referenced CM Punk’s legendary “Pipebomb” promo and stated that “The Second City Saint” failed to achieve the goals he articulated in that memorable message. He then pointed out that he did everything Punk said. He went to Japan and played all over the world while changing the game.
The American Nightmare then explained that he ran the company, he deserved credit for making AEW what it is today, and he still refused to step foot. He made several recordings on WWE NXT and taunted some of AEW’s new signings, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish, for making them famous on the developing brand. He even took a stab at WALTER’s controversial name change by referencing “Gunner McGilibuddy.”
