French actor Gaspard Ulliel, best known for Chanel perfume ads and portraying fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in a 2014 biopic, has died at the age of 37 after a skiing accident in the Alps, French media reported on Wednesday.
Ulliel, who won Best Actor for his role in the French César It’s just the end of the world, a 2017 film directed by Canadian director Xavier Dolan, was the face of the men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel.
“French cinema is losing a huge talent full of charm and energy,” French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire tweeted.

Ulliel was treated in hospital early Wednesday before he died, prosecutors said. Local broadcaster France Bleu said at the time he was in “serious” condition with a skull injury.

Ulliel’s agents did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The police and public prosecutor’s office did not provide any information about the course of the accident. France Bleu said Ulliel appeared to have collided with another skier at a crossing point on the slopes and the other skier was not taken to hospital.
The mountain police at the scene of the accident said they had organized five or six rescues a day for the past few days as the snow had hardened.
