Rifle Drops Shootout With Alaska Fairbanks #1 – Archyde

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The No. 4 Ole Miss rifle gave the statewide No. 1 team Alaska Fairbanks and ran for its money and fell by two shots Sunday afternoon, 4719-4721.

second grader Lea Horvath scored the highest score of the day with a 1183. The Rebels had three of the top five players of the match but couldn’t overcome a strong small-caliber performance from Alaska Fairbanks.

Jillian Zakrzeski scored the highest score in small caliber for the rebels with a 588. She was followed by Horvath (587) and O’Neel (586). Christian ringtones and Abby Buesseler Shot on the second season, both ended with identical marks of 583. Not included in the score was the freshman M’Leah Lambdin, who posted a career-high in small caliber for the second day in a row.

Six points down after smallbore, Ole Miss attempted to airgun overtake the Nanooks again. Horvath and O’Neel led with points of 596 and 595, respectively, followed by Martina Grätz with a 593. Derting and Zakrzeski rounded out the scoring with a pair of 591s to bring the Rebels’ total to 2,375, surpassing Alaska Fairbanks, but not quite enough to win the match.

The Nanooks claimed victory with a 4721 (2350 rimfire and 2371 airgun). Gavin Barnick had the highest total of the match with a 1183.

Ole Miss is back in action on January 29th and 30th when it travels to West Point for two games with Army and John Jay College.
