Australian border guards questioned Novak Djoković at 8am local time (10pm Friday Polish time) on Saturday at a “place agreed upon by the parties”, but it was not disclosed, reports CNN. The Serbian star will spend Saturday in custody awaiting a court hearing.

Djokovic’s case is expected to be heard in federal court on Sunday, with the hearing scheduled to begin at noon. 9:30 a.m. local time.

On Friday, Alex Hawke, Australia’s Immigration Minister, decided to cancel Novak Djokovic’s visa. He concluded that such a decision would be in the “public interest”. The lawyers of the Serbian tennis player immediately set about developing a further course of action.

The whole story started when Djoković received a special medical certificate to compete in the Australian Open without vaccination. This decision was made by two independent medical commissions. The Serb flew to Melbourne, where he was arrested by border services. First he was in solitary confinement at the airport and then he was transferred to a refugee center.

On January 10, a federal court ruled that the 34-year-old tennis player’s visa was valid. That’s why Djoković was released from the hotel.
