The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently reviewing ccccccCOVID-19 antiviral oral pill molnupiravir and a recommendation is likely to be made by early February, an agency official said on Friday (January 14).

Janet Diaz, WHO chief for clinical management, said the WHO guideline development group is also preparing to review Pfizer’s oral pill.

“We will be looking at this data (Pfizer oral pill) in early February with a view to releasing later this month.”

Late Thursday, a WHO panel recommended the use of two drugs from Eli Lilly and GlaxoSmithKline and Vir Biotechnology for COVID-19 patients, adding treatment options as the fast-spreading Omicron variant renders many ineffective.
