Several school districts in North Texas are starting the work week by researching the impact of the recent COVID-19 surge.
Rio Vista ISD
In a letter to parents, the Rio Vista ISD in Johnston County announced that it would be closing its campus on Monday and Tuesday due to the number of teacher absences. The district said the decision was made after receiving the results of a COVID-19 employee testing event and the lack of substitutes.
A drive-through COVID-19 testing center will open at the district middle school on Tuesday. Students and employees can be tested between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Buildings in the district would be cleaned and masks provided. Lunch was also available for pick-up upon request.
Delays in the school bus
The Garland ISD said several school bus routes were delayed on Monday morning “due to multiple absences,” as posted on social media.
The district asked parents to call 972-494-8530 to report any pick-up delays.
The Plano ISD also reported “considerable delays on several bus routes” on Monday morning. Plano ISD schools resumed classes for the spring semester on Wednesday.
