In the midst of a pandemic, upon entering the rainy season, the public must also be aware of the potential for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). This viral infection can affect all age groups, from infants to the elderly.
“Dengue hemorrhagic fever or DHF is mediated or the vectors are the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. DHF occurs in the transition period, rain is interspersed with heat and we find rainwater, for example outside the house, such as in the central ribs of trees or leaves, it can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, so there will be more mosquitoes in these times and those Dengue incidence will increase, ”said Dr. Nahwa Arkhaesi, Sp.A., M.Si.Med., Pediatrician, Diponegoro National Hospital (RSND) Diponegoro University
“The first symptom that occurs is a fever, we lower the fever with antipyretic drugs, then drink often, but don’t be surprised if it goes up and down, this is a fever phase and there is no need to panic. To prevent dehydration, you can drink clear water or milk as long as it is not red or brown, since vomiting is feared, be it blood or the color of the milk. The antipyretic drug that is specifically approved for dengue is acetaminophen, ”he continued.
DR. Nahwa said the dengue fever (DHF) phase or cycle begins with the febrile phase that occurs immediately after infection with the virus begins. High fever usually lasts for 2 to 7 days. On average, the fourth day begins to enter the critical phase, followed by the healing phase. The problem with bleeding is that the platelets fall off, so there is a risk of bleeding, but it does not always happen, every child is different. Bleeding can occur in the febrile phase, and if the critical phase has not subsided, the bleeding becomes more severe as there is a fear of blood vessel leakage.
“To greet this rainy season, I urge you to keep the environment outside and inside the home clean, especially water reservoirs or those that accidentally collect water. Improved environmental hygiene, baths or water reservoirs need frequent brushing, the key to prevention is not to drain stagnant water, remove trash that causes water retention and not ignore 3M, bury used items, shelters close water and the tub empty. Regarding the pandemic, which has not yet ended, the process is maintained to implement clean, healthy living and nutritious food. If you have complaints about a high fever, please be more vigilant. If the fever has dropped but you still have a fever for 2 to 3 days, please seek treatment immediately, ”said Dr. Nope. (Lin-Humas)
