The Nigerian musical landscape has spawned a number of records that rocked us into moments of atmosphere where we were comfortable and loved. In a place where we gathered and danced through the spectrum of those moments, wishing they would last forever and never collapse, we enjoyed these records that the makers offered us with joy and without regret, either we want even more.
This list contains the records that set the pace for us in 2021. They have been carefully compiled in no particular order, but have been chosen for the sake of the influence they curated and how fans are connected to them. Most of them stayed on the music charts and allowed us to rock the good moments.
Joeboy – Alcohol:
Joeboys “Alcohol” is one of those records in which everyone found solace and with which in 2021 there was a strong connection. Alcohol is like a place where Joeboy finds his peace of mind, accompanied by rounds of schnapps that he kept asking for as he also began to influence his fans, especially drinking alcohol. However, he advised them not to take alcoholics, and the song continued to produce more effects.
Omah Lay – Understand:
Omah Lay’s Understand is another record that had a huge impact on the Nigerian musical soundscape and beyond. Recently, Omah Lay had a successful home concert in his town and was put aside to push boundaries with his debut studio album, “Boy Alone,” which he is expecting. He also published the catchy “Free Mind”, which is currently making numbers on all streaming platforms both locally and internationally.
Ruger – Dior:
From the success of Ruger’s “Bounce” during the pandemic and in lockdown to after lockdown, Ruger took over the airwaves and was successively spotted alongside his label colleague Rema among the top 10 most exciting creators in his home country. Currently, his “Dior” has replaced Bounce, while the magic of his success lies on his recently released second expanded track, “Second Wave,” alongside his consistency and ability to deliver expansively.
Kizz Daniel – Oh Gott:
After the success of Kizz Daniel’s “Lie”, he orchestrated an EP that arranged his love life and once again proclaimed his place as the king of love. “Eh God” becomes a special cloth that was cut out of the project as it could underline a new wave of dance in pop culture if Kizz Daniel carefully applies the wave that the album is currently producing. Since leaving G-Worldwide in 2017 to this day, he’s been following the wave of the Nigerian music industry, now he’s making several attempts to create one.
Adekunle Gold – High with Davido:
AG Baby doesn’t have a single disappointment in him, you have to admit that you believe in him so well now. So far he has opened the year with the cadenced pop “What It Is” and accompanied the lush R&B and Pop “Sinner” with the British singer Lucky Daye. Adekunle Gold currently has several featured tracks, but has not failed to resume service and bring us the night owl’s favorite track on a joint with Davido called “High”. The record kept the night owls together in one piece while everyone vibrated and rocked the juice nonstop, even drank schnapps to make the fun a fair exchange, accompanied by hedonism.
Fireboy-DML – Peru:
Fireboy DML is currently enjoying great success in 2021. Recently, his monster hit Peru completely collapsed in the UK market with the help of Ed Sheeran on the remix, which has expanded DML’s marketability and access to the UK music scene. He makes huge numbers on all DSPs and rocks the ambience to the fullest.
Wizkid – Essence Remix mit Tems & Justin Bieber:
From the box of his fourth studio album, Wizkid made an official remix of Essence, which appeared on the deluxe version of the album the following year. It featured Justin Bieber and reported massive success in America, staying at the top of the charts for weeks and connecting the world, despite becoming the song of the summer in 2021.
Ladipoe – Feeling with Buju:
Feeling has become the record that everyone has enjoyed. Topping the music charts both locally and in the continental hemisphere, the record has kept listeners in a form that is related to everyone’s emotions. Feeling has a strong connection with its listeners, even if the record fits in perfectly with the conversations of the year. It is worthy enough to grab a prize if not the power of Joeboy’s “Alcohol”
Simi – So Bad mit Joeboy:
This album is beautiful, at the same time it’s a hit album that came out seamlessly, maybe because of the help of Joeboy. She previously released “Woman” before “So Bad” helped adore women and give them everything they deserve, including a voice that speaks for itself through the record. Now “So Bad” could be described as the track that helped Simi achieve a breathtaking career in 2021.
Burna Boy – Kilometer:
Kilometer is a strong reflection of Burna’s transition from a nobody to a someboy in the Nigerian music industry. He focused on connecting the dots of his lifestyle and experiences that connected the minds of the audience in one piece, while telling the wealth of experiences and the like about his current state as an African giant. Kilometer was a hit and was carefully supported by his second single that year entitled “B.Dor” with Wizkid.
Burna Boy has had a successful year in retrospect, his 2022 promising more, even if he will headline a show at Madison Square Garden, one of the largest arenas in the world.
Gyakie – Forever Remix mit Omah Lay:
Ghana’s most popular Gyakie’s mild tempo “Forever” became not only one of Nigeria’s favorite songs in 2021, but with Omah Lay’s remix efforts side by side with Gyakie’s stint encouraged Nigeria’s love for Gyakie and her music. Not only has the album harvested a huge amount of streams across digital platforms, but it has also deeply connected the hearts of many lovebirds.
