United and Delta cancel flights just before Christmas Eve – archyde

On Thursday, United Airlines (UAL) said it had to “cancel some flights” because of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

“The nationwide surge in Omicron cases this week has had a direct impact on our flight crews and our operation staff,” said a United memo on CNN.

United has canceled more than 150 flights, according to the flight tracking site FlightAware.

United said it would “notify affected customers in advance that they are coming to the airport,” it said in a company statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience and are working hard to rebook as many people as possible and get them off on vacation.”

Late thursday evening, Delta Airlines (FROM) also canceled flights. The airline has canceled more than 100 Flights on Christmas Eve, according to FlightAware.

Delta said the cancellations were due to several issues, including the Omicron variant.

“We apologize to our customers for delaying their vacation travel plans,” Delta said in a statement. “Delta people are working hard to get them to their destination as quickly and safely as possible on the next available flight.”

In addition, Alaska Airlines said in a statement that it has canceled 17 flights due to Omicron and additional cancellations are possible on Christmas Eve.
