Real Madrid reportedly want Joe Gomez and Liverpool’s reported transfer interest will give them hope. The reds may cover all options.
Die BBC claimed on Wednesday Real Madrid want Liverpool defender Joe Gomez in 2022. They believe a summer transfer could take place and are watching the situation.
In truth, it would be a bit of a shock. Gomez was a regular two years ago on a record-breaking Liverpool team going to the Premier League title. Going on for sale within two years of that would be unknown to this Reds squad.
But maybe Liverpool is already looking in that direction. In the past few weeks there have been links pointing to a possible replacement.
Liverpool aiming for a replacement transfer?
Araujo is clearly an exciting talent who, at just 22 years old, is playing well for a troubled Barcelona side. Its potential seems huge and a contract that expires in 2023 means it could be available cheaply next year.
The confusion comes from the fact that Liverpool don’t really need a center-back. Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Gomez are all great players, while Ibrahima Konate continues to shine.
But it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense when Liverpool are considering a transfer for Gomez. Perhaps their interest in Araujo points in this direction, as the Reds want another future-proof commitment as a replacement and a longtime partner for Konate.
We said last month that the Araujo reports have raised questions about the long-term future of Gomez in Liverpool. Perhaps this reported interest from Real Madrid is the answer we’ve been looking for.
