As losses mount, Christian Wood vows to get Rockets back on track – archyde

After Thursday Road loss in Indiana, Houston has now lost seven out of nine games, having recently had a seven-game winning streak. But the great man Christian Wood swears that the Rockets will soon be “back on track”.

“I love Houston,” Wood swore at the tweet. The 26-year-old had scored 22 points and 8 rebounds on Thursday night in Indiana.

The potential optimism has two reasons. First, there are some extenuating factors for Houston’s predicament. They currently complete a nine-game stretch with eight on the road, and the only home game was for the second straight night (and without Wood due to an injury). The Rockets (10-23) then have five of their next seven games at home at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Second, the entire run through Thursday was without esteemed rookie Jalen Green, who was almost a month out with a hamstring injury. Green returned on Thursday, scoring 20 points in just 25 minutes due to a minute limit, including 6 out of 9 at 3 points (66.7%). In the future, Wood and Green seem to be Houston’s top duo.

“I’m happy to have him back,” Wood said of Green on Thursday evening. “He played great tonight. He had the hot hand. “

As for Wood, the big man continues to play a large part on offense, scoring 20 or more points in eight of his last ten games. In his last five games, Wood is 28 out of 38 (73.7%) on free throws, which was a clear weakness for him at the start of the 2021/22 season. Like most Rockets, he needs to improve defensively, but perhaps a friendlier route to planning – and the presence of Green to shoulder the heavy burden on offense – will help ease that growth at the other end.
