Belgians pay a lot for mobile services compared to neighboring countries

I don’t entirely agree with that. My example here is Free Mobile in France. I have had this subscription since 2014 and took it with me to South Africa (2.5 years) and Belgium (where I have been living for half a year now).

I pay surprisingly little for what I get back. I pay just under EUR 20 per month for 150 GB in France (4 / 5G, depending on coverage) and 25 GB in Europe (and over 70 other destinations *) with 4G.

At the beginning (2014/2015) it wasn’t very good, since 3G and then 4G were only perfect in big cities and they didn’t have many masts of their own, you were soon on the Orange Network at reduced speed when you were outside. the big cities came. It’s really different now and when I compare the situation with other references I have in the Netherlands and Belgium, Belgium is by far the worst off, after that the Netherlands is somewhere between my experience with Free Mobile and the providers in Belgium.

The cheapest subscription with Free Mobile in France costs 2 euros per month. SMS and MMS completely included, 50 MB (yes, megabytes) and 2 hours of phone calls. However, I don’t know anyone who uses it or wants to use it at all.

There is one caveat, however, which is that I am actually breaking my contract by no longer living in France. I need a French address and bank account to use this.
