Aldi presents plans to open a 10 million euro store in the city of Cork – archyde

Aldi Ireland has announced plans to open a new store in Cork with the creation of 30 new permanent jobs.

Aldi today submitted a building application to Cork County Council for a new 1,315 m² store in Carrigaline.

Considerable investments of € 10 million will be made in the area for the new store.

The store will be centrally located on Main Street in town, on the site of the old Carrigaline Pottery, which closed in 1979 after more than 50 years in business.

Up to 60 jobs are to be created during construction.

If approved, the 1,315 m² store is operated with 100% green electricity and has 52 photovoltaic solar modules on the roof. The new branch will have four charging stations for electric vehicles and twelve bicycle racks.

The store is part of a larger development with Deady Gahan Architects Ltd that is outlining a vision to fuel the growth of Carrigaline’s city center, including a new public space for the local community, a cafe, nearly 80 residential units, and dining and leisure space development opportunities.

There will be pedestrian and vehicle access through the premises, in both north / south and east / west directions, to ensure customers can easily reach Carrigaline city center.

To the north and west of the planned construction project, the Carrigaline adjoins Western Relief Road, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

The new market is part of a larger master plan for the inner city, which can be viewed at.

Commenting on the submission of the building application, Colin Breslin, Aldi Regional Managing Director, “We have been working closely with Cork County Council to open a store in Carrigaline for a while and we are pleased to present our plans today. Every new Aldi store offers buyers more choice, quality and value.

“Our on-site research at the beginning of the year showed us how great the demand is for a new Aldi store in Carrigaline. We are therefore looking forward to investing in the region and bringing our award-winning offer to the people of the city. ”
