Moderna could be ready to develop Omicron boosters in weeks: CEO – Post World

ZURICH: The COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer Moderna does not expect any problems with the development of a booster to protect against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus and could start work in a few weeks, said CEO Stephane Bancel in an interview.

Moderna hopes to begin clinical trials early next year with a vaccine to protect against the fast-spreading Omicron variant, but is focusing on a booster vaccine for now.

“Omicron only needs minor adjustments. I don’t expect any problems, ”said Bancel in an interview with the Schweizer TagesAnzeiger published on Tuesday (December 21st).

Now the company was waiting for important information about the variant to begin development.

“This will be another week or two,” said Bancel.

“It will be a few more months before we can produce 500 million cans after (official) approval. But our capacities are significantly higher today than they were a year ago, ”he said.
