Kolkata Municipal Corporation 2021 Election Results LIVE Updates: The leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) expressed their confidence when they recorded a landslide victory in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) election as the party occupies 17 seats while Congress and the BJP each win one. The elections took place on Sunday under increased security and according to Covid-19 protocols in 4,959 voting booths.
The left-wing parties, Congress and the BJP organized separate rallies across West Bengal on Monday to protest alleged violence during the high-profile election campaign. The ruling TMC described these demonstrations as “a drama for fear of losing the citizen polls”.
According to surveys, there was a scuffle between BJP activists and the police in front of the party’s headquarters after the warehouse workers were prevented from holding a protest. The Saffron Party had demanded the cancellation of the “violent public opinion polls” and
had asked Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to declare the polls null and void in the face of rampant violence and manipulation.
On Sunday, the party announced that it would hold protest programs across the state and organize a rally in the city later that day. Despite the denial of permission, when the party workers began to protest, the police stopped them and a scuffle ensued between them. The police arrested several party members and party leaders.
“Whenever the BJP wants to hold a rally, we are refused permission on the basis of COVID standards. We announced yesterday that we would be protesting against the violence in citizen polls, ”the party’s vice-president Jaiprakash Majumdar told PTI.
Meanwhile, Congress claimed that on Monday a party candidate for the KMC polls was stripped to his underwear and beaten up by TMC supporters in the north of the city. However, one TMC guide denied its supporters were involved.
