Wrestling to compete in the Collegiate Wrestling Duals – archyde

VESTAL, NY – Binghamton Wrestling is on a quick turnaround after beating Sacred Heart 39-7 and will compete in the Collegiate Wrestling Duals on Monday and Tuesday. Several of the nation’s best teams will take part in the two-day event. BU will face No.6 NC State at 9 a.m., before heading to No. 10 Missouri starts.

  • The Bearcats compete as winners of their last two duels, including a 39-7 win over Sacred Heart Saturday.

  • In the event of victory, BU won eight out of 10 fights with six bonus point wins. Anthony Sobotker, Brevin Cassella, Jacob Nolan and Lou DePrez all had pins during Ryan Anderson suffered a technical fall in his first double win of the year. Nick Lombard added an important decision.

  • Three members of the line-up were included in the national ranking. Anthony Sobotker, the nation’s leader in pins (nine), received a Honorable Mention on the FloWrestling leaderboard last week. Joe Doyle is number 22 in the country (InterMat) and Lou DePrez is in 12th place (InterMat).

  • Binghamton is 0-1 against Missouri all-time and 0-2 against NC State. The last matchup took place in 2019 with the Wolfpack (28: 9 defeat).

About the tigers

  • The Tigers will bring nine nationally ranked wrestlers to Niceville, including No. 3 Keegan O’Toole (165 pounds) and No. 4 Rocky Elam (197 pounds).

  • Mizzou is 4-1 in the season, the only loss being to Virginia Tech (18-16).

  • O’Toole and Elam are the undefeated wrestlers of the Tigers. Elam has an important win against Owen Pentz of North Dakota (14-6) and O’Toole a win against Luke Weber of North Dakota (fall).

  • Heavyweight Zach Elam will be featured in a marquee matchup against # 22 Joe Doyle. He’s 4-1 a year, with his only loss to Virginia Tech’s Nathan Traxler in OT.

About the wolf pack

  • The Wolfpack entered the tournament 3-0 and last defeated Appalachian State on December 12th with 25:10.

  • NC State brings in five top 10 wrestlers with ranked athletes in each weight class. The top ranked wrestlers are Tariq Wilson and Tret Hidlay. Hidlay reached the NCAA finals a season ago.

  • The team’s other two wins were over Gardner-Webb and West Virginia. BU will face the Mountaineers later this season.

  • Head coach Pat Popolizio trained at BU from 2007 to 2012.

The Bearcats will wait until 2022 to wrestle again as they face Lehigh on January 7th. The match starts at 7 p.m.
