UPDATE | A high-voltage line failure leaves parts of Cape Town without power – archyde

A fault in at least one power line left large parts of Cape Town without power.

Cape Town spokeswoman Priya Reddy said a “major supply failure” led to the sudden blackout on Monday evening.

The city’s Twitter account called it “a technical flaw in the network”.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said at least one high-voltage line across the N1 has been disrupted.

He said fire and electricity teams were on site “to put out fires and repair the cable and restore power”.

Some local residents said they saw forest fires near a substation near Canal Walk.

It is still unclear what damaged the high-voltage line.

The failure extended from the Atlantic coast to parts of Woodstock and the surrounding area.

“The city takes care of the failure. There is no estimated recovery time available, ”Reddy said.
