As 2021 began, it felt like a relief to many of us – a chance to release the inevitable pressures that had built up since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.

That feeling didn’t last long when Uri hit, the deadly winter storm that left millions of people across Texas without power with freezing temperatures and record snowfalls in some locations.

We saw the rise of the Delta variant, a new iteration of the coronavirus that was easier to transmit just as schools were starting to open across Bexar County.

Some relief was felt in early November when children aged 5 and over were entitled to a vaccination against COVID-19.
