Sherlock’s vision of organic products in Gardes Scratch area – archyde

Sherlock made the first discovery of organic matter on the surface of Mars since the Curiosity rover. It is also the first detection of organic matter on the Martian surface by ultraviolet fluorescence spectroscopy (while the Curiosity rover uses a different method known as mass spectrometry) and the first detection of the spatial distribution of organic matter on the Martian surface. . Organic material was found to be simple aromatics and present in low concentrations, similar to what the Curiosity rover and Mars meteorites found. Astrobiology is one of the primary goals of persistence missions to Mars, including looking for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the geology and past climate of the planet, pave the way for human exploration of the red planet and be the first mission to collect and temporarily store Martian rocks and regolith (split rock and dust).

NASA’s next mission, in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), will send a spacecraft to Mars to collect these sealed samples from the surface and bring them back to Earth for in-depth analysis.
