TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian police’s counter-terrorism unit Densus 88 arrested 14 suspected terrorists on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Police Headquarters PR chief, Sr. Comr. Ahmad Ramadhan said the suspects were arrested in North Sumatra, Batam and South Sumatra.
Ramadhan said on Friday, December 17, 2021 that nine suspects were arrested in North Sumatra, one in South Sumatra and four in Batam, Riau Islands.
He said the suspects are now being held at police stations in each province.
Ramadhan did not say which terrorist networks the 14 suspects are connected to, be it Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) or Jamaah Ansharud Daulah (JAD).
Earlier this week, on Monday December 13, 2021, the Densus 88 Counter Terrorism Squad also arrested four men suspected of being members of JI in South Sumatra. The suspects hid refugees from the JI group and became involved in terrorist financing activities.
