CDC recommends Pfizer to use Moderna COVID vaccines versus J&J in adults – archyde

A CDC panel on Thursday voted in favor of the Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines being preferred to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to a low number of very rare but dangerous blood clots for adults.

Of approximately 17 million people in the United States who received the J&J vaccine, there have been nine deaths from the condition known as thrombosis with thrombocytopenia, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices said Thursday.

The CDC acted hours later and accepted the panel’s recommendation.

The mean age of those who died from the disease was 45 years. There were seven women and two men, all non-Hispanic whites. Among them, seven were obese, three had high blood pressure, and two had diabetes. No disease was known in two of the patients.
