Affleck said, among other things, that he felt trapped in his marriage at the time and drank a bottle of whiskey a day. He also stated that if he and Jennifer were still married, he would probably have still been drinking. These statements earned him a storm of criticism. And the actor didn’t see that coming.
“People flipped the conversation so it would look like I did things when I did the opposite,” Affleck said. “I said we had a lot of respect for one another and always put our children first, which we did when our relationship stalled. And then they say I blame my ex-wife for drinking and being in jail.
“I’m portrayed as the most terrible, insensitive, terrible bastard. And I’m not, I just know that, ”he continues. “I would never want my kids to think that I am speaking badly of their mother.”
