South Korea again imposes food curfew; South Africa reports daily case numbers – archyde

Let’s start with the news that South Korea will crackdown on social gatherings, reduce the maximum size of private gatherings to four, and reduce the opening hours of some companies to combat a record-breaking surge in Covid infections that has led to an increase in hospital admissions and deaths.

The 9 p.m. curfew on restaurant and cafe hours will also be restored, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said Thursday. The new measures will apply from December 18 to January 2, reports Yonhap News.

South Africa reported the highest daily number of new coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, with 26,976 infections and 54 deaths on Wednesday.

The previous record of 26,485 on July 3 was at the height of the country’s third wave caused by the Delta variant. 108 Covid deaths were reported that day.
