Bison completes New York trip with dominant win at Buffalo – archyde

AMHERST, NY – The North Dakota state wrestling team took a three-game road trip to New York this week, beating the University of Buffalo 34-7 at the Alumni Arena on Saturday night.

The bison (5-1) took four bonus point wins, including three pins, to dispatch the host bulls (3-4) to crown three wins in two days.

Dylan Droegemüller started the night with a pin on the first dual of the night at 141 pounds. Droegemüller was 7-0 ahead of Ben Freeman in the second period before securing a takedown followed by a pin call at the 4:32 mark.

Lukas Weber and Owen Pentz would also secure pins for the bison. Weber accumulated in his match at 165 pounds. With Noah Grover in the lead, Weber secured a turnaround and pinned Grover with 36 seconds to go to end his weekend 3-0 with three pins.

Pentz had a more dominant match at 197 pounds, which also ensured the bison victory in the dual. Pentz secured an early takedown from Sam Mitchell and put the Buffalo wrestler in an attacking position before bringing the fall call into the match only 1:40.

Brandon Metz booked the last bonus point win for the bison with an important decision in the heavyweight matchup against Toby Cahill. Metz posted four take-downs and also had a two-point near-drop to the cruise.

Jared Franek and Kellyn March also took big wins for the bison and both wrestlers won after Buffalo took each of their two wins.

Franek only allowed vanishing points while recording five take downs in a 10-4 decision against Ty Raines. March didn’t allow a point and had a take down with two reversings to beat Derek Spann 6-0.

In his first double game of the season Riley Habisch picked up a close 3-2 decision over Giuseppe Hoose at 174 pounds.

The other bison win came at 184 pounds where freshman DJ Parker scored his second win of the weekend. Parker had four takedowns and one reversal in an 11-7 win over Pete Acciardi.

The bison are slated to be off for the remainder of 2021 and returned to use at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, which hosted Southern Scuffle, to usher in the new year on January 1st and 2nd.
