Two pedestrians were killed overnight in various road accidents in South Austin, officials said on Saturday.
An adult pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 35, Austin-Travis County paramedics said.
According to a tweet from EMS, Austin police and fire departments joined up at 6100 I-35 South near William Cannon Drive around 4:49 a.m. to respond to reports of an unconscious person. First responders later announced that the adult had died on the scene.
Previously, according to an EMS tweet, medical professionals responded to another report that a pedestrian was hit at around 2:18 a.m. in Block 4500 of Menchaca Road near the Cimarron Trail. After giving CPR to the unconscious patient, medics pronounced the adults dead at the scene.
Further information on the incidents was not available.
Austin has 112 road deaths this year. most casualties since at least 2007. Police on Friday identified 14-year-old Sterling Grace Turner-Williams as the 110th person killed in a traffic accident in the city. .
