“Rabbi Goldstein” emailed Oakley’s campaign and the two agreed to hold a virtual fundraiser in Gaza with suggestions for topics such as “The Morale of the Intifada”, “Occupied Tel-Aviv” and “Zionism and Other White Dominance Movements” . ”

The rabbi / parody account originally reached out to Oakley’s campaign in late November, according to the report New Yorker Post. “I would appreciate if you could provide dates / times for this week or next to connect and discuss further,” said Maita Lockhart, campaign manager for Oakley, in an introductory email dated November 23.

Imani Oakley has positioned itself as a progressive alternative to Rep. Donald Payne Jr., who has represented New Jersey’s 10th Ward for nearly a decade. Oakley’s social media outlets are active on popular American social issues, and they have previously labeled Israel “genocide” and “apartheid”.

Rabbi Goldstein responded shortly thereafter, saying, “I think it would be great if Ms. Oakley could attend a house party / fundraiser in Gaza in person or virtually (via Zoom). I can’t think of a better way to display your #FreePalestine in good faith. “

“We’re very excited that you want to host a virtual fundraiser,” Lockhard replied. “I would be grateful if you could provide us with dates / times this week or next so that we can consolidate the next steps.”

The account is the work of a New York City-based attorney named Michael who did not reveal his last name. “I make fun of the five percent of Jews who hate Israel,” he told the Post. “I created this personality that shows how reduced and absurd these people are.”

“Jews cannot live in Gaza. The fact that people think that she is the Chief Rabbi in Gaza or that she has a temple in Gaza only shows how illiterate the people are in this conflict, ”Michael concluded.

Oakley then issued a defiant tweet saying, “No political attack will prevent me from defending the humanity and dignity of the Palestinian people, fighting human rights abuses by the Israeli government and calling for an end to apartheid.”

Lockhart confirms that NY Post She didn’t realize that the contact was not righteous. “We didn’t want to do anything in Gaza that was obviously out of the question,” said Lockhart. “I tried my best to respond and go through the process, but at no point did we commit to doing anything.”
