Donny van de Beek could offer Cristiano Ronaldo an alternative as Man Utd bet on the clock – archyde

Ralf Rangnick may not be in the dugout for Manchester United’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday, but it already feels like it’s having a small impact on the football club.

The 63-year-old’s stellar reputation for management and tactical acumen will put much of the current squad to the test, especially given the way they have underperformed for much of the season.

With this in mind, there will certainly be a reaction from the Red Devils in the capital. With Raphael Varane injured and Harry Maguire suspended, it remains to be seen whether that will be enough against the European champions.

Here are the latest United headlines ahead of a big game and a fascinating new chapter for the Red Devils.

Can Van de Beek play a big role for United under Rangnick? Let us know in Comments below!

Van de Beek has been cited as a potential Ronaldo alternative to lead the line.

Carrick talks about possible Van de Beek changes

One player who will enjoy the chance to start over under a new regime is Donny van de Beek, as he was completely out of favor at the time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was at the helm.

One of the Dutchman’s main problems is the competition for the places the club has in attacking midfield, including with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, who is vying for places in the side.

But at his press conference outside Chelsea, current interim manager Michael Carrick suggested Van de Beek could be playing at the time of the attack.

“We have ideas that we think Donny is best for, but he’s so flexible and adaptable, with two or three positions,” he said.

“He even played as a false nine for Ajax in the Champions League when they were beaten at the end of Tottenham.”

Rangnick will try to convey a high intensity football brand at Old Trafford and will attempt to prepare the players with a countdown clock on the training ground.

One of the most important facets of the 63-year-old’s philosophy is to quickly win the ball back from the opponent.

It will be exciting to see how the team, which has often been asked to sit deep under Solskjaer, reacts to such a change in style. All eyes will be on the 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo for sure.

Owen worried about United against Chelsea

Former Manchester United Forward Michael Owen believes Manchester United will face Chelsea on Sunday.

The blues have been in great shape lately, putting on arguably their best performance of the season during the week when they pounded Juventus 4:0 in der Champions League.

Given that the Blues seem to be finding their way and United from week to week in the Premier League, Chelsea are undoubtedly favorites. Owen said he believes the Red Devils will struggle to keep the European champions in check.

“Chelsea were great against Juventus,” said Owen. “They’re rock solid defensively, something you have to be if you want to win the title.

“I think Carrick will play Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho here again, but Chelsea are just too strong for me. I’m on the side of the Blues to get all three points. “
