Eddie Howe in Newcastle dugout canoe for Arsenal trip, plus team news – live! | Soccer – to the world

Brighton gegen Leeds United: Leeds is traveling to the Amex Stadium for tomorrow’s kick-off and Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the press ahead of his team’s trip to the south.

When asked if he was considering reusing Kalvin Phillips as a center-back after his stellar performance against Tottenham last weekend, Bielsa insisted that the England international is most effective as a low-lying midfielder in front of his defenders.

“At Leeds, his natural position will be the defensive midfielder,” he said. “This is where you can see Kalvin’s qualities the most. Of course I will try to make sure that he plays most of his minutes in this position. “

Bielsa said he hired Phillips as one of three center-backs alongside Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente to specifically deal with the threat posed by Kane and Tottenham’s strike partner Son Heung-min.

“Our best player against Tottenham,” said Bielsa. “He was our best player when he played alongside Cooper and Llorente, and followed Kane when he fell deep.

“We’d talked about thinking about who could best prepare for Kane to fall deep, and it was Phillips. It’s a method that is very clear in Tottenham. Kane falls and does the diagonal [pass] from the left to the center.

“We solved that with Phillips and Llorente who teamed up with these two players” [Kane and Son Heung-min] and Cooper waits as a free man. That worked very well. From my point of view, the best of Phillips, you find that when he plays in the middle of the field. As far as his position in the national team is concerned, it does not correspond to my opinion. “

Bielsa was unable to play his strongest line-up for most of the season due to injuries but is strengthened by the return of Raphinha and Rodrigo for Saturday night’s kick-off in Brighton.

Leeds are two points ahead of the relegation zone and have to do without striker Patrick Bamford as they are pursuing their third place Premier League Win of the season, but Jamie Shackleton is back in the race too.
Defenders Luke Ayling (knee) and Robin Koch (pelvis) are working their way back after the operation.

Bielsa added: “The injuries are not one of the reasons we are here and of course it worries me about our position in the table.

“I am responsible for a group of footballers to guarantee to earn a higher position. The club trusted me and one of the things that shows that trust is what they pay me to do this job. Of course, these results that I offer do not meet expectations. ”
