Driver in custody after hours of chase through LA – NBC Los Angeles – UK

A driver is in custody after taking the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department MPs in a van on a long city chase Thursday night.

On Thanksgiving night, LASD began tracking a van in the Carson area.

The driver took MPs through several towns including Long Beach, Willowbrook, Watts and eventually came to a stop in Compton.

The van driver often stopped or braked before accelerating again.

At some point the driver found himself in a small alleyway where another driver of a white vehicle was approaching.

The chase driver rushed to the other vehicle and forced them to leave the small one-way street so they could escape and continue the chase.

During the chase, the driver was seen backing up the vehicle into the MPs behind them and even heading towards a deputy who was outside the patrol car, almost missing them.

Around 9.45 p.m. white smoke could be seen from the right side of the vehicle, which turned out to be a missing tire.

After losing the right rear tire, sparks flew from the vehicle on the rim.

As the chase continued, the driver drove to a Target mall and later another Walmart mall.

The vehicle came to a stop near the Atlantic and E. Alondra Boulevards in front of El Rancho Mobile Home Park in Compton.

The driver stayed in the vehicle with the door open and waited a while before attempting to escape.

After about an hour of persecution, the officers caught up with the driver and took him into custody.
