Emergency services have warned residents to keep their doors and windows closed while they respond to a large fire in Hessle, East Yorkshire.
Humberside Fire and Rescue said they were in attendance, adding, “We advise residents to close windows and doors. Please avoid the Priory Way to the A63 area and remember that there is a lot of smoke in the area and on the surrounding streets. “
Humberside police also warned the public to avoid the area.
Footage posted on social media showed flames near apartment buildings and a large cloud of smoke rising into the sky.
Grace Grant, 25, told the PA News Agency that she heard explosions from the fire.
“It was huge, smoke could be seen from miles away. When I drove off, there were explosions every 10 seconds, ”she said.
Local pubs in the area said they would offer free drinks to those affected.
The Fiveways posted on Facebook: “We are happy to provide those affected by the fire in Hessle with free hot drinks and accommodation. Free hot drinks for rescue workers. “
Another pub, The Norland, wrote: “We are aware that a number of the locals have no electricity, so we stay open to drinkers and have free tea and coffee.”
