Luke Shaw tells Manchester United squad what it’s like to play under Mauricio Pochettino – archyde

Luke Shaw previously said Mauricio Pochettino made him feel like the “best player” as Argentina is linked to the Manchester United manager’s vacancy.

Shaw broke through the Southampton Academy in the first team and came well below Pochettino.

His appearances on the south coast attracted United worth £ 27 million in 2014, making him the highest paid teenager in world football at the time.

The pair could be reunited at United in the near future if both coaches and club get their way.

Pochettino is currently in charge of the French club Paris Saint-Germain, but the MEN know he is ready to shorten his stay in the French capital and move to Manchester to take on the vacant leadership position.

Shaw’s brilliant start at Old Trafford was ruined by a bad broken leg in 2015.

The left-back struggled for form for a number of years and there were reports linking him to a move to Tottenham Hotspur where Pochettino had moved.

Shaw spoke about what it was like to play and reconnect with Pochettino in Guillem Ballugue’s book, Brave New World: Inside Pochettino’s Spurs.

“He always called me his son,” Shaw wrote. “Our relationship was that good. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but when I was with Pochettino it was always up, up, up.

“He made me feel like the best. He showed me clips of my games and said, ‘You could do better’. Not in a terrible way. I couldn’t have done better, but I should have done better because he knows I can be better.

“I think he achieved the impossible with Southampton. We were one of the best football teams in the league … I hope one day I can play for him again. And I think he really wants me to play under him again. ” “

Shaw had a stellar season last year helping United advance to the Europa League final and finish second in the Premier League.

He carried his form into the 2020 European Championship, where he scored against Italy in the final before England was beaten on penalties.

Although his form has waned a bit this season, what he said about playing under Pochettino could be exactly what he needs to get back to the lofty heights in 2020/21.

Shaw is likely to miss United’s Champions League game against Villarreal due to a concussion he sustained prior to the international break in the Manchester derby.
