Terence Crawford vs. Shawn Porter Fight Results: Round by Round Results, Papa Kenny Towel Throw, Boxing News, TKO Video – Post World

Boxing machine Terence Crawford’s biggest win of all time was overshadowed by the actions of his opponent’s runaway father.

Terence Crawford cemented his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time with a dramatic victory over the brave Shawn Porter.

The fight ended spectacularly just moments after Porter had a very real chance of one of the biggest surprises in recent memory in the Sunday afternoon blockbuster fight at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas (AEDT).

The judges’ cards were very close as the fight went into round 10 before Crawford exploded with punches that dropped his opponent twice in 90 seconds.

Crawford has defended his WBO welterweight belt for the fifth time, silencing his critics for good with the biggest win of his career.

Crawford, 34, won the fight when Porter’s father and coach threw in the towel before their fighter could recover from his second strike.

Porter looked puzzled when it dawned on him that his team had abandoned the competition.

Crawford used his moment like all great champions when he landed a powerful uppercut that put Porter on his bum.

A minute later Crawford had set up a brilliant right hook after a double step back. The hook crunched across Porter’s cheek and crashed him to the floor.

While Porter got back on his feet relatively quickly, his father Kenny Porter had thrown in the towel before his fighter even had a chance to show that he was still in the fight.

Shawn Porter said that after the fight he was still able to continue the fight.

“I didn’t expect that,” he said during an interview in the ring.

His father’s betrayal took another level when the microphone was placed in front of him.

Kenny Porter scorched his own son’s preparation for battle and tossed him under the bus in front of a worldwide television audience.

He said poor fitness was the reason he stopped the fight.

“Shawn was injured and moving forward, this guy is a tough fighter and my kid is deficit and couldn’t defend himself. I had to protect him, ”he said.

He said it was like his son was “fighting blindly” because of his poor preparation.

Round through updates for Crawford-Porter

Round 1 – Porter advances with aggressive shouts as soon as the bell rings. Crawford is put on the ropes. A timid Crawford is studying his opponent.

round 2 – A huge round in which both fighters landed sweet shots inside. Porter was marked twice on entering but also landed at least one swinging hook. The judges should have the fight 19-19.

Round 3 – Porter and Crawford both land. A bad, bloody cut has appeared in Porter’s right eye, but this can be traced back to a headbutt. Porter falls over, but it is not counted as a knockdown.

Round 4 – Crawford started to win the exchange with his counter-attack. Porter is still sneaking a few shots through as he comes forward. The judges should have the 38-38 bout after four rounds. Porter is nudged by Crawford and falls on the ropes. “Man, that was intense,” says senior boxing commentator Bernardo Osuna.

Round 5 – An even lap in which Crawford landed a few more clean shots.

Round 6 – Another even round with Porter starting to land some good body shots. Crawford has a bloody cut on his face after a second accidental head clash. The judges should have a Crawford score of 58-56.

Round 7 – Porter is still the more active fighter and is rewarded with a large right hand in the middle of the round. It’s a zero round for Porter in a very even fight.

Round 8 – Crawford lands multiple shots in the head to begin the round. Porter lands the best punch of the round, however, before Crawford responds with his own clean jab. The fight could easily be even after eight rounds at 76-76.

Round 9 – Porter succeeds with his jab and the following combinations. Porter is probably ahead.

Round 10 – The big moment has come. Crawford scored the first knockdown of the fight with a shot that left Porter flat on his butt. A second knockdown results in Porter throwing in the towel in a corner in insane drama.

Why Crawford couldn’t win the world

Fights against the best welterweight fighters – Errol Spence, Keith Thurman and Manny Pacquiao – remained elusive through no fault of their own

One of his most notable victories was the demolition of Australian Jeff Horn in 2018.

However, Crawford will finally grant his wish to face an elite opponent on Sunday when he takes on Porter at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas.

The challenge Crawford faces is reflected in the reported battle wallets. According to ESPN, the fighters’ camps had agreed on a 60-40 split in favor of Crawford earlier this year. It’s a result that Crawford is expected to pull away with $ 8.3 million, while Porter is poised to pocket more than $ 5.5 million in a $ 14 million wallet.

At the beginning of the top-ranked broadcast of the event on Sunday, commentator Bernado Osuna described the fight as “legacy-defining” for Crawford.

ESPN’s Mark Kriegel said the fight will determine whether Crawford is “the king of the division and an all-time great”.

While Porter (31-3-1, 17 knockouts) starts as a significant underdog, he represents a class leap for Crawford, who defeated the Briton Kell Brook in his last game a year ago with a knockout in the fourth round.

However, Crawford believes that even a convincing win over Porter on Saturday may not be enough to reassure all of his naysayers.

“It depends on the fashion I hit Shawn in,” Crawford said. “Everyone who has defeated Shawn before has won by split decision. So if I hit Shawn in a way that I’ll knock everyone else out (by knockout) they’ll say, ‘Oh, but it wasn’t the same Shawn Porter’. “Crawford took a respectful tone to Porter in the meantime at last press conference before the fight, even if victory is predicted.

“I respect everything Shawn does,” said Crawford. “Shawn is athletic, he can box, he can pop, he can move around in the ring, he can cut corners and take angles.

“I’m not going to sit here and say that I don’t respect anything he does. I’m just going to say that I do a lot of things better than Shawn. I’ll show him on Saturday. ”Porter hasn’t fought since a unanimous win over Sebastian Formella in Los Angeles in 2020. Previously, his most recent fight was a split-decision loss to Errol Spence Jr. in September 2019.

Unimpressed by his underdog status, Porter looked relaxed as he faced Crawford at their weekday press conference.

Crawford weighed 146.4 pounds and Porter weighed 146.6 pounds.
