After four years the music festival returned to the Czech Republic. The prizes from the Czech Nightingale Survey were awarded on Friday in the Karlín Music Theater. The winners for the first time are Marek Ztracený, Ewa Farna and the band Mirai. But the gala evening was not without a scandal. The co-organizer of the competition, billionaire Karel Janeček, used the closing speech to present his personal position on the government’s pandemic measures. He has been criticized by media experts and celebrities.
While the beginning of the gala evening was accompanied by a smile and enthusiasm, at the end they remained present like scalds. Billionaire Karel Janeček caused the excitement.
“We must not give in to the terrible pressure to vaccinate our children against a disease that does not threaten them in any way,” he said unexpectedly.
The position of Janeček making such statements is a question for experts, but the words have lifted them from their chairs. “It’s so outrageous. For a graduate of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in particular, it is absolutely unbelievable. Of course, the man probably calculated that by sponsoring the event he would be able to make such a statement live and that it would “affect people,” says immunologist Václav Hořejší.
“After all, we are in a situation where human lives are at stake. A judge cannot afford that anyway, ”said media expert Ondřej Fér.
Other experts point out that Janeček wants to run for president and that he simply served him the gala evening. “When Mr Janeček officially announced his presidential candidacy, as speculated, it was of course very original, but a shame, because the issue clearly divides society,” says political scientist David Jágr.
At the same time, experts agree that politicians are unhappy about cultural events, and so are the artists themselves.
“He just remembers that the speech was very long and for a while I felt like I was somewhere other than the music awards. Not everyone liked it and I understand a bit that it didn’t belong there ”, says singer Marek The Lost, who took the golden and absolute nightingale home with him.
“Slavík’s ghost has completely disappeared. It has become a kind of political proclamation. So we were poisoned. He raised his hands as Václav Havel did. It didn’t seem so stupid to me at first, but then I realized what ”he said,” criticized Petr Janda.
Most of the people in the poll for this year’s poll had totaled 216,000 voters since it was launched.
